Flips My World - Rick Grant
The idea of the song came directly from watching the two Odd Squad films, Through a Blue Lens and Flip My World. Many of the words are quotes or sayings that are in these videos and what I tried to do was put together all of the sayings and ideas and put them together in a single song that would sum up how innocent and how easy it was for these people to fall into the trap, of what has become the drug culture of the downtown east side.

FLIPS MY WORLD

I’m gonna take a little trip to the east side of town
Have a little fun and chase the dragon down
Do it again, I’m craving it
Got a hold of my soul I didn’t know it was so indiscriminate
Now I’m sleeping on the streets and I’m soaked to the bone
An alcove is the shelter that I call my home
Wake up each morning with hunger pains
Looking for a meal I can borrow, beg or steal, anything.
And now it trips my world
You know if rips my world
And then it flips my world, upside down
Working on the corner, as the cars go by
With a wink and a smile I’m busy for a while
Put on my shoes, I’ve made my pay
I’m going to buy a little packet, tuck it in my jacket
And I’m on my way
And now it trips my world
You know it rips my world
And then it flips my world upside down
I’m looking for a needle I can use again
So many holes that I can’t even find a vein
I feel its release, yeah it numbs my pain
I reach my peak and my valley
I crumble in the alley, to oblivion
And now it trips my world
You know it rips my world
And then it flips my world, upside down
