Addiction:
A chronic, relapsing disease, characterized by compulsive drug-seeking and use as well as neuro-chemical and molecular changes in the brain.
Flaps and Pills:
There is no quality control with street drugs. Don’t gamble with your health or your life. Why tinker your brain chemistry?
Back to Life:
A drug overdose victim is revived by Fire and EHS (Emergency Health System attendants) just across the street from the SIS (Supervised Injection Site). A heavy dose of heroin (a CNS depressant) shuts down the respiratory system first so the victim must be ‘bagged’ (assisting with his breathing by manually pumping air into the lungs via an airway with an attached plastic bag). A lifesaving dose of Narcan (narcotics antagonist) was administered intra-muscularly in order to nullify the potentially lethal effects of heroin.
