Defining Resistance

a) Concepts
PRO TIP: Eight types of resistance can be expected from the modified escort grip position, so all you need to know is one defensive technique for each type of resistance.

Although there are many ways to defend against these forms of resistance, only the Fawcett Wrench takedown is featured in this course.

Stay in his shadow zone to make it difficult for him to attack you—if he moves, then you do so accordingly.

Maintain control over his arm throughout the entire handcuffing process so that you are able to negotiate movement with him using the currency of pain, or be able to take him down.

All takedowns require both maintaining a hold of his arm (to also protect his head upon falling) as part of your duty of care and as a requirement for quickly seizing him in a standing armlock after taking him down.
