c) Control Advantages

Being heads up is difficult to do if your head is buried in your notebook.

Having a cover officer controlling the arrest scene allows you to divert your attention to making essential notes and arranging for the arrestee’s name to be run, and transportation to be acquired.

PRO TIP: The cover officer should not be involved in these administrative tasks as his sole purpose is to ensure your security and wellbeing of the arrestee.

Use SB/OR (Subject Behaviour/Officer Response) reporting if available to you for the advantage of dispelling use-of-force myths and in helping to identify assault trends that could steer training regimens into deeper practicality.
