Phases of Arrest
The process of making a physical arrest is broken down here into logical and discrete (albeit arbitrary) phases and steps. Each arrest situation is different, hence some steps could be skipped or re-arranged as per your involvement in an arrest process. These steps, therefore, can be considered modular in nature.
PHASE ONE: GAINING CONTROL
- Tactical Approach
- Initial Control
- Standing Handcuffing
PHASE TWO: TAKEDOWN
- Defining Resistance
- Takedown
- Standing Armlock (supine)
- Rollover
PHASE THREE: HANDCUFFING
- Standing Armlock (prone)
- Prone Handcuffing
- Formal Arrest
- Body Search
PHASE FOUR: FINALIZATION
- Arrestee Stand-Up
- Escort to Transportation
- Handcuff Removal
- Documentation
Move through the handcuffing course at your own leisure. Use the pictures and videos provided to add clarity to your leaning experience. Practising these techniques with a partner is ideal. Answer the quizzes as they appear at the end of the modules (and re-do them if needed) until you attain a passing grade of 80% which will allow you to proceed with each module. A final quiz covering each of the modules appears at the very end. It must be completed in order to have a certificate of completion e-mailed to you. Have fun!
