From August 30th to September 4th, 2026, the Odd Squad Wilderness Youth Team successfully completed a challenging wilderness expedition along the rugged coast of Nootka Island. This journey was a Gold Level Award expedition for the Odd Squad Duke of Edinburgh Award program. The Award Ceremony will take place during the Odd Squad Christmas Fundraiser on November 19, 2026.
During this inspiring 5-day backpacking trip, youth participants successfully navigated extreme weather conditions (including over 100 mm of rain in 10 hours and 30 km/h winds!), demonstrated outstanding teamwork, and completed the physically challenging trail at Friendly Cove.
This journey was a true testament to the strength and character of the youth. Every participant demonstrated maturity, physical endurance, and camaraderie throughout the trip. From campfire gatherings to navigating challenging conditions together, the memories made on Nootka Island will last a lifetime.
